By now we all know the story. USC rolls into town and escapes with an 18-15 win. It is Ohio State's sixth straight loss against a Top 10 team. Facebook status', Twitters, and message boards are a dumpster fire. All proclaiming the same message: Tressel cant win the big one. He has to go. You want to fire Tressel? fine, go ahead. But be careful what you wish for, OSU fan. Unreasonable OSU fan will tell you "yeah, Tress can win the charmin-soft Big 10 and get you to a BCS bowl, but we expect national championships!". People, do you have any idea whatsoever how hard it is to win a national title? Sure, Florida has made it look simple, winning two of the past three, but it isnt NEARLY that easy. Alabama has a fan base who expects a national title every year. Quick, name me the last time they won one! Anyone?? 1992. Notre Dame? 1988. The Texas Longhorns, one of the winningest programs in college football history have only been crowned national champions four times. To expect a national championship every year is simply unreasonable and incredibly idiotic. To expect to compete for one every year is a completely different story.
This past football weekend saw #3 ranked USC downed by unranked Washington, and #7 ranked BYU blasted at home by unranked Florida State. I ask you this, Buckeye nation: Would you rather have a coach lose 1 game every year against a top 10 team or 1 game every year when they are a 14 point favorite? Think about this.... Other than the 2004 Northwestern and 2007 Illinois games, name me one game where Jim Tressel has lost a game his team was favored to win by more than a touchdown. Dont think too hard. The answer is ZERO. Folks, quite simply put, Jim Tressel wins every game he should, and his teams are ALWAYS in a position to compete for a national championship. I can live with that.
